Mackinac Island (MI)

This past weekend, my family and I where on an end of summer vacation on Mackinac Island. We arrived Friday night, and stayed until Monday afternoon. In order to get to Mackinac, you must park your car in a lot, and take a ferry to the island. Mackinac is located in upper Michigan, where lake huron separates the upper peninsula from the rest of Michigan. The most peculiar and touristy part of Mackinac, is that the only means of transportation is by either wagon, or bicycle. On the second day, my father and I rented a fixed gear tandem bike to take around the Island. As we were leaving, however, we were caught up in a downpour. We biked around the 8 mile perimeter of the island in pouring rain. The highway (the only state highway in which motor vehicles aren’t permitted) was located right between the shoreline and the steep cliffs and forest. The sights were spectacular!! We unfortunately had to leave before the time we had booked was used up (we were scheduled to stay until at least Tuesday) because my VISA appointment with the Consulate of Chicago had finally been booked! Over all, it was a great time spent with my family. Its amazing to think that I will not see them for ten months
